Mary Bloom Photographer

Mary Bloom has been a professional photographer specializing in the bond between people and animals, especially dogs since 1978.

Her photographs have appeared in numerous publications, including Life, Smithsonian Magazine, Womanís Day, Family Circle, People, the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Newsweek, the New York Daily News and news organizations including the Associated Press.

Book credits include Everyday Heroes, Extraordinary Dogs Among Us, Howell Book House, New York, 1998; The American Kennel Club Complete Dog Book For Kids, Howell Book House, New York, 1996; Between Pets and People, G.P.Putnamís Sons, New York, 1983; Greff, the Story of a Guide Dog, E.P.Dutton, New York, 1982; Illustrated 24 complete books pertaining to various breeds of dogs for a variety of publishers.

Is the official photographer for the Westminster Kennel Club since 1995.

Only woman photographer assigned to photograph the Harp Seal hunt off the coast of Newfoundland, and the Grey Seal hunt off the coast of Scotland.

The inspiration for two children's books titled At Mary Bloomís and Overnight at Mary Bloomís, Greenwillow, New York, 1987.

Photographer in residence (for 20 years) at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, the largest gothic cathedral in the world, located in New York City.  Documenting important political, environmental and religious activities for the Cathedral archives and publication department. This work includes travel, to Russia and England to cover the Global Forums on Environment and Development.

Recipient of the Dog Writers Association of America & United Kennel Clubs Distinguished Service Award in February 2002.
